Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 2026
Thank you for using SpanLex - Spanish Dictionary (“SpanLex,” “the App,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). This Privacy Policy explains what information may be processed when you use the App, how it is used, and the choices available to you.
By using the App, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please discontinue use of the App.
1. Information We Collect
SpanLex does not require you to create an account or log in to use its core dictionary features. We do not directly ask you to provide personal information such as your name, phone number, or account password.
Words you search for, saved or favourite words, selected language preferences, and other preferences may be stored locally on your device. The App itself does not send those local dictionary searches or saved words to our own servers.
If you contact us by email, we will receive the information you choose to include in your message, such as your email address and the details of your request. We use that information to respond to you and handle your inquiry.
Technical and Diagnostic Information
Depending on the services enabled in the App and on your device, third-party services may automatically process limited technical information, which may include:
- Device model and operating system version
- App version and general app diagnostics
- Crash reports and performance information
- Language or regional settings
- Advertising identifiers and advertising-related signals, where applicable
This information may be used by the relevant service providers to deliver their services, troubleshoot problems, measure performance, and help maintain app stability. The information collected depends on which services are active in your version of the App.
2. Dictionary Content and Local Storage
SpanLex provides Spanish vocabulary and dictionary content, which may include English translations, meanings, definitions, explanations, examples, related terms, and other language-learning information.
The dictionary database is packaged with or stored locally by the App. Looking up a word in that local database does not require the search query to be sent to our own servers.
Recent searches, bookmarks or favourite words, language preferences, and other app settings may be saved on your device. This locally stored information is not uploaded to or stored on our servers by SpanLex.
Local information may be removed if you delete it within the App, clear the App's storage, or uninstall the App, subject to your device's backup and operating-system settings.
3. Text-to-Speech and Pronunciation
SpanLex may use the text-to-speech functionality available on your device to pronounce Spanish words or other supported text. Availability and pronunciation quality depend on your device, installed voice data, and system settings.
The App does not record your voice through this feature. If your operating system or selected speech service processes text externally, that processing is governed by the applicable provider's terms and privacy policy.
4. Advertising
The free version of SpanLex may display advertisements through third-party advertising providers, such as Google AdMob, if advertising is enabled in the version you use.
Advertising providers may automatically collect or receive information such as:
- Advertising ID or other advertising identifiers
- Device and app information
- Approximate location derived from technical signals, where permitted
- Ad impressions, interactions, and performance information
Providers may use this information to deliver, measure, limit, or personalize ads, subject to applicable law and your consent choices. Where required, the App or its providers may present consent options for advertising-related processing.
For more information, review the Google Privacy Policy and the Google information about advertising.
5. Premium Features and Purchases
SpanLex may offer a Premium version or in-app purchases that remove advertisements or unlock additional features or content, if available in your version of the App.
Purchases are processed by the applicable app store, such as Google Play or the Apple App Store. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. The app store handles payment processing, billing, renewals, refunds, and cancellation under its own terms and policies.
6. Third-Party Services
The App may rely on third-party services for advertising, in-app purchases, platform functionality, diagnostics, or other features. Depending on the version of the App and the services enabled, these may include:
- Google Play Services
- Google AdMob
- Google Play Billing
- Apple App Store services, where applicable
Third-party providers process information under their own privacy policies and terms. Their practices are not controlled by this Privacy Policy, so we encourage you to review the relevant provider policies.
7. How We Use Information
Information we receive directly from you, such as an email you send to support, is used to respond to your message and address your request. Technical information handled by third-party providers may be used to operate their services, deliver ads or purchases, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.
We do not sell your personal information. SpanLex does not use your locally stored dictionary searches or favourites for its own server-side profiling.
8. Data Retention and Security
Information stored locally by the App generally remains on your device until you remove it, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App. Emails you send to us may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to you, maintain records, or meet legal obligations.
We take reasonable steps to protect information under our control. However, no electronic storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
9. Children's Privacy
SpanLex is a language-learning and reference application. The App does not knowingly request personal information directly from children. Third-party services, including advertising services, may have their own age-related requirements and data practices. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, please contact us so we can review the request and take appropriate steps.
If the App is configured or marketed for children, its advertising, consent, and data practices should be configured to comply with the applicable child-protection and app-store requirements.
10. Your Choices
- You can remove saved words or clear local App data using the features available in the App or your device settings.
- You can manage advertising identifiers, ad personalization, and privacy choices through your device settings and any consent options presented to you, where available.
- You can manage subscriptions and purchases through the relevant app store.
- You can choose not to contact us by email; however, we may then be unable to respond to support requests.
11. International Users
Third-party providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where applicable, those providers are responsible for using appropriate safeguards and complying with the legal requirements that apply to their processing.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the App, the services it uses, or applicable legal requirements. The updated version will be published with a revised effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
